Device Management Workflow

Develop & Diagnose

Wind River Workbench Diagnostics – One Developer, One Target
In parallel with application development, developers use Wind River Workbench Diagnostics to instrument their code with Sensorpoints to create fault-documenting devices. Developers use Sensorpoints to test running software. They group Sensorpoints into test harnesses that are posted to the Device Management Server, where they can be accessed by QA and field support teams. When they are called on to diagnose and repair issues discovered in the QA lab or in fielded products, developers download Sensorpoint logs, core files, and exception logs collected from devices and published on the Device Management Server.

Workbench Diagnostics is a plug-in to Wind River Workbench.

Archive & Analyze

Device Management Server – One Repository, Many Users
The Device Management Server is the hub of Wind River Device Management. Here, device- and model-specific libraries of Sensorpoints are stored and published to test or customer sites. Data collected from test or customer sites is aggregated on the Device Management Server, creating a valuable archive of real performance and time-of-failure data to help engineers quickly resolve software faults and improve the design of next-generation product.

The Device Management Server is a secure enterprise-class server application. It is typically located at OEM headquarters.

Interact & Resolve

Site Manager – One Site Manager, Many Devices
The Site Manager is a secure server application that collects performance and time-of-failure data from devices in the test lab or at a customer deployment and pushes device-specific diagnostic, test, and repair Sensorpoints to running devices.

Site Managers are typically located at test sites during QA, or at customer sites after devices are deployed.
