Wind River and Freescale Offer New Preintegrated Development Kit for Telematics, Industrial, and Consumer Industries
Wind River and Freescale Semiconductor have expanded their partnership to offer a preintegrated development kit, Apollo, that includes Freescale's MPC5121e advanced development system reference board and your choice of either Wind River Linux 2.0 or VxWorks 6.5. Also included in the Apollo development kit is a preintegrated board support package (BSP), specifically optimized for the MPC5121e and Wind River Workbench, the device software industry's leading Eclipse-based tools suite.
The expanded partnership enables Wind River and Freescale to jointly deliver a tightly integrated, tested, and scalable solution to further decrease time-to-market for devices, increase reliability, and reduce bill of materials cost.
MPC5121e
The MPC5121e is based on an e300 core built on Power Architecture technology. It also includes AXE, a fully programmable 200MHz, 32-bit RISC core for real-time acceleration tasks. The MPC5121e is ideally suited for any embedded application that needs support for high-end displays, graphics acceleration, and network connectivity, such as telematics, rear-seat entertainment systems, set-top boxes, and surveillance and security systems.
Wind River Linux
Based on a standard Linux 2.6 distribution, the Wind River Linux platform combines a high-performance, preemptible kernel environment with powerful networking applications, file systems, and management and security features. In addition to a fully tested and validated distribution, Wind River Linux includes the Eclipse-based Wind River Workbench development suite. Wind River Linux is backed by 24/7 global technical support and specialized professional services to help jump-start your next project.
VxWorks
VxWorks is ideally suited for devices requiring a highly scalable, hard real-time, deterministic run-time environment. The platform includes a comprehensive networking stack that features Wind River Advanced Networking Technologies, enhanced memory protection, error management, and POSIX compliance. The latest edition is also backward-compatible with earlier versions of VxWorks, allowing customers to leverage existing and legacy software assets. VxWorks is backed by Wind River’s 24/7 global technical support and specialized professional services to help jump-start your next project.
Development Board
The advanced development system reference board comes in a rugged Mini-ITX form factor. It offers control for shock and vibration, humidity, and industrial temperature extremes. Wind River Linux or VxWorks is flashed on the board with Wind River Workbench available in accompanying media.
